We would like to thank you for your approval of our baiting programme for the 2023 year.  As always we have felt very
supported by you and your team.
This  year when we received our permission letter, attached was the National Performance Standards for Pest
INFORMATION
Operations.  A subgroup of the Habitat Tuateawa committee have considered these standards in depth.
Following our detailed perusal of especially the National Performance Standards and the DOC Performance Standards for
Pesticide Uses Number #121 we now realise there are a number of requirements we are unable to fulfil this year.
·
Notification of groups (eg pig hunting groups) who require a longer time frame than community notifications
·
Detail of information needing to be included in the notifications
·
Carcasses monitoring and bait monitoring – in particular building the cages required when we need to do
multiple monitors.  In 2022 we did 1 carcass monitor.
·
Toxicology monitoring for poison residue testing – we do not have the skills or people power to complete these
requirements.

we believe that if we proceed with our baiting operation we will make Habitat Tuateawa, our Chair and Trapping
(g)(ii)
Coordinator in particular, at risk and also place DOC at risk with an approval we cannot completely fulfil.  We have
decided to withdraw from the baiting programme for 2023. This will be the first time since 1997 we have not baited.  We
would like to begin early in 2024 to prepare for that season of baiting and would be grateful for DOC help to get us to the
'squeaky clean’ preparedness.
We would like to thank you and your team for your ongoing support.  We value you as advisors and colleagues and look
forward to working with you in the near future.
Nga mihi
