1.  How many PET CT scans have been referred in the past 5 years across New Zealand? 
2.  How many PET CT scans have been referred in the past 12 months? 
3.  What is the average cost of each referral? 
On 1 March 2023, we emailed you seeking clarification of your request. You responded with the 
following:  
1.  The amount of PET CT scans performed in New Zealand in the past 5 years 
2.  The amount of PET CT scans performed in New Zealand in the past 12 months 
3.  The average cost of a PET CT scan in New Zealand. 
Please see outlined below a response to each part of your request. 
1.  The amount of PET CT scans performed in New Zealand in the past 5 years 
There were 21,788 patients who have had PET CT scans performed or referred by Te Whatu Ora 
in the past five years. 
2.  The amount of PET CT scans performed in New Zealand in the past 12 months 
There were 6,305 patients who have had PET CT scans performed or referred by Te Whatu Ora in 
the last 12 months.  
3.  The average cost of a PET CT scan in New Zealand. 
The average cost for PET CT scans for New Zealand patients was $2,532.04 in financial year 
2022/23.
