I refer to your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) received on 8 July 2023 
requesting the following information from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment 
(Ministry): 
 
“I am writing to inquire about the post-accreditation checks for accredited employers that 
was announced by MBIE in April. I kindly request the fol owing information regarding these 
checks: 
 
1. Could you please provide the number of employers that have undergone checks since the 
announcement in April? 
2. Has the accreditation of any employers been suspended or revoked as a result of these 
checks? If so, how many? 
3. What are the top three most common issues that have been identified since the 
commencement of these checks? 
4. How many employers have directly passed the checks without any concerns raised by 
immigration officers? 
5. Could you please share the detailed Selection Criteria that have been designed and utilized 
for these checks? 
6. I would also appreciate it if you could provide me with the training materials and 
assessment templates used by immigration officers to conduct these checks.” 
 
Our Response 
 
Point one 
Could you please provide the number of employers that have undergone checks since the 
announcement in April? 
 
The number of accredited employers that have undergone post-accreditation checks since the 
announcement in April 2023 (until 25 July 2023) is 535. 
 
Point two 
Has the accreditation of any employers been suspended or revoked as a result of these checks? If so, 
how many? 
 
To date, no accredited employer has had their accreditation suspended or revoked due to the 
outcome of an accredited employer post-accreditation check.  Immigration New Zealand has only 
revoked the accreditation of one employer due to financial issues.  One employer has also had their 
accreditation suspended due to concerns around not meeting their employer obligations under the 
Accredited Employer Work Visa.  This was not directly related to post-accreditation checks.
