Information Request – Personal Alerting Privacy Assessment
We refer to your official information request dated 10 July 2023 asking for a copy of the Privacy
Assessment of the Next Generation Critical Communications – Personal Alerting service held by
Fire and Emergency New Zealand. We interpret your request to refer to the Personal Alerting
service element of the Public Safety Network.
Your request has been assessed in accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act
1982 (OIA). Fire and Emergency has not completed a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) for the
personal alerting service element of the Public Safety Network communications service because
this part of the plan has not progressed to the point where it would be required. Therefore, your
request is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA, because the information does not exist.
We do have a copy of the PIA for the current personal alerting service. If you would like a copy of
that, please make a further request with us.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
