I refer to your information request dated 28 August 2023 made under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act). You have requested the following information: 
 
‘…the minimum average score (as a percentage) of HSFY students, under the General category 
specifically, who gained entry into the BDS programmes of 2023, 2022 & 2021 (To clarify, this 
would mean these students completed HSFY in 2022, 2021 & 2020 respectively). 
 
Whilst the previous request would look at the minimum score of applicants who were 
eventually offered a place after initially being wait-listed, I would also like to know the 
minimum percentage score of HSFY applicants under the General category who received a 
first-round offer to Dentistry (over the same years), regardless if they then accepted this offer 
or not.’ 
 
Subject to the following comments, please see below the information you have requested: 
 
•  At the University of Otago, we do not use “first round” terminology. We would instead say 
that these were the minimum average academic scores to receive an offer on the date that 
offer outcomes were first released (usually on or around 18 December of the preceding year).
