Thank you for your email on 30 October 2023, asking for the following under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act):  
 
1.  “Kindly supply the number of consultants also known as Senior Medical Officers whose 
contracts were terminated under the Covid 19 Order for vaccination between October 
25 2021 and October 30 2023. 
2.  If possible, please supply specialty training of Senior Medical Officers also known as 
consultants whose contracts were terminated under request #1. 
3.  If #2 requires too much work, please supply number of Senior Medical Officers also 
known as consultants in psychiatry specialty training only.” 
 
With regard to question 1, Te Whatu Ora has collected information relating to resignations and 
terminations due to the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021 (the Order) 
by Occupational group only. 
  
As at 29 August 2022, there were eight medical staff resignations and 38 medical staff 
terminations, comprising staff within the medical occupational group including both Senior Medical 
Officers and Resident Medical Officers. 
Please note these figures cover both vaccinations 1 and 2 and the booster.  
  
Definitions: 
•  Resignation - All employees who have resigned and have indicated that this is (or can 
fairly be assumed to be) as a result of the Order. This category also includes those who 
have chosen to retire as a result of the Order. 
•  Terminated - All employees who have been issued formal notice of termination of their 
employment, as a result of non-compliance with the Order. 
 
With regard to questions 2 and 3, Te Whatu Ora does not hold information by specialty and refuses 
these parts of your request under section 18(e) of the Act as the information requested does not 
exist.
