Dear Sean Marshall

Thank you for your email of 18 August 2022 requesting information relating to court
documents. Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).

You requested the following:

Please provide a copy of any pleadings and any interlocutory applications either
filed by or served on the Minister or the National Animal Welfare Advisory
Committee in the proceedings described in the article below.

proceedings-against-the-governmentfor-their-failure-to-ban-rodeo.htm

On 15 September 2022, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) extended the time limit to
respond to your request to 14 October 2022 pursuant to section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA. We
further advised on 13 October 2022, that we would be unable to response by this date, and
we would endeavour to provide a response as soon as possible.

Please see attached Appendix One, which provides copies of pleadings and interlocutory
applications filed or served by the Minister or the National Animal Welfare Advisory
Committee. Some information has been withheld pursuant section 9(2)(a) of the OIA – to
protect the privacy of natural persons.

MPI is satisfied that in the circumstances of this case, the withholding of the information is
not outweighed by other considerations which render it desirable in the public interest to
make the information available.

For additional documents regarding this case, we would direct you to apply to the High Court,
please refer to their website here: https://www.courtsofnz.govt.nz/going-to-
court/media/finding-out-about-a-case. You would also need to use this form:
