Official information request regarding staff diversity
We refer to your official information request dated 24 January 2024:
“Can you provide the most up to date numbers for the following:
* Number of permanent staff in Student Experience and Wellbeing group
* Number of Māori staff
* Number of Pasifika staff
* Number of Rainbow staff
* Number of staff with disabilities”
In your response to our follow-up correspondence on 4 February 2024, you clarified that
you only requested a breakdown of staff within the Student Experience and Wellbeing
team.
As of 23 January 2024, the Student Experience and Wellbeing team at the University
employs 109 permanent staff members, including 6 who identify as Māori and 5 who
identify as Pasifika.
Please note that these figures are based solely on self-identification by staff members
during the formal recruitment process. Therefore, they may not fully reflect the diversity
of the Student Experience and Wellbeing team.
The University does not currently keep a centralised record of numbers of staff who have
declared a disability or who may be a member of the Rainbow Community. Provision of
this information would require an assessment of each staff members records which would
constitute substantial research and collation Therefore this aspect of your request is
refused in accordance with s18(f) of the Act.
In some cases individuals may choose to advise the University regarding their ethnicity,
disability, gender or sexuality. This information is provided on a confidential basis, and
therefore is withheld in accordance with s9(2)(a) of the Act in order to protect the privacy
of natural persons and s9(2)(ba)(i) of the Act in order to protect information which is
subject to an obligation of confidence and making available of the information would be
likely to prejudice the supply of similar information.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of the
decisions made regarding this request. Information about how to make a complaint is
available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
