Thank you for your email of 26 March 2024 to Wellington City Council | Te Kaunihera o Pōneke (the
Council), requesting the following information:

Are you please able to supply Audio Descriptions, visual descriptions and Alt text of all
publically funded murals commissioned since 2019.
Your request is being considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA).
Many of the commercially funded murals commissioned since 2019 have descriptions or blurbs about
their design and meaning on the Council’s website, on either t
he Arts webpages or on t
he Our
Wel ington webpages.
We don’t provide audio or visual descriptions for images on the website; however, we aim to provide
alt. text for all images. There are some exceptions though, for example decorative images (images
that don’t provide additional information such as design elements) and older images may not have
had alt. text added when they were loaded. We don’t provide audio or visual descriptions as the alt.
text we add to images (along with text on the webpages) can be read out loud by text-to-speech or
screen reader software.
The Creative Capital team are in the process of updating t
he pakiTara-toi art on walls webpages,
uploading information about recent projects and working with the Web team to include alt. text to
ensure these projects are accessible.
It is for the aforementioned reasons that I am refusing your request pursuant to section 17(d) as the
information requested is or wil soon be publicly available.

You have the right, by way of complaint under section 28(1) of the LGOIMA, to request an
investigation and review of the Council’s decision to refuse information by the Ombudsman.
