Official Information Act request: Financial position
Thank you for your email of 6 April to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry), seeking under the
Official Information Act (the Act), information concerning the Ministry's financial position.
Specifically, you requested:
Is your department at risk of overspending its financial appropriation this year?
If it is, please supply
*
all correspondence with and information supplied to Treasury about this
*
all correspondence with and information supplied to your Minister and your
Minister's office about this
*
all correspondence with and information supplied to the Public Services
Commission about this
*
all correspondence with and information supplied to the Auditor-General or his
office about this
*
all papers to or considered by your leadership team about this
*
all papers to or considered by your risk and audit committee about this
*
all papers to or considered by any other of your governance groups about this
Have you set aside an allowance in this financial year for redundancies or other costs
of restructuring? If so, how much is that allowance?
In response to your request, the Ministry, as part of its normal activity in its administration of
Vote Courts and Votes Justice, would advise the Minister on any potential appropriation
overspends along with proposed actions to mitigate such potential overspends. Such advice
and actions, if any were to be identified, would be Budget sensitive and would be withheld
under section 9(2)(f)(iv) of the Act to protect the confidentiality of advice to Ministers.
The Ministry has not set aside any allowance for redundancies or restructures for the
2023/24 financial year. Should the Ministry anticipate such costs, these would be included in
updated financial forecasts and appropriate allowances would be made.
If you require any further information, please contact Media & Social Media Manager Joe
Locke at [email address].
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
Ministry website at: justice. govt. nz/about/official-information-act-requests/oia-responses/.
