I refer to your Official Information Act request transferred to us from the Ministry of Health on 
8 November 2019 in which you specifically requested the following: 
I am writing this request for information pertaining to the relationship between University of 
Otago and Southern DHB relating in specific to Dunedin Hospital. I wish to understand the current 
relationship between both parties and if there are any current agreements in place between both 
parties either as sponsorships or commercial arrangements. The particulars I wish to obtain is 
scope of agreement, contract periods (start and expiry and options to extend), contract value. 
 
Southern DHB and University of Otago currently have numerous agreements covering: 
-  Facility space 
-  Clinical access, training and placement agreements for students 
-  Joint clinical agreements – where we jointly employ senior medical officers 
-  Clinical Lecturers – teaching by DHB employees 
-  Provision of other staff, e.g. medical imaging technologists, pharmacists, relief 
administration staff 
-  Research agreements 
-  Health Research South – jointly owned by the DHB and University  
-  Professional development and education support for university and DHB staff  
-  School of Pharmacy Clinic joint venture 
-  Interprofessional Learning Centre Stakeholders Group – DHB, University and Otago 
Polytechnic
