Dear Grayson
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 14 December 2021 requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
I would like the annual costings of all years from 2011-2021 of;
Any and al Road Safety, Road Sign, Traffic Management signs or any other sign, on any and
all surfaces where a vehicle is present paid for by NZTA or any and all agencies around NZTA
for that area where a vehicle is present.
Your request was clarified on 16 December 2021 and 23 December 2021 as follows:
The cost of all signs on state highways in the last 10 years.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency makes lump sum payments to its contractors through its
maintenance contracts for activities under the following work categories – Network Services
Maintenance: WC 122 and Traffic Services Renewals: WC 222. Both work categories cover the
cleaning, repairing and the renewal of traffic services assets such as signage, delineation (road
markings and edge marker posts) and sight rails.
Due to the contract mechanism that Waka Kotahi uses to pay for these services, we are unable to
provide you with actual costs as per your request, and instead are providing an annual breakdown of
costs for WC 122 and 222 for the years 2015-2020.
Waka Kotahi does not hold information regarding signage costs for the years prior to 2015. Therefore,
I am refusing this part of your request under section 18(e) of the Act because the document al eged to
contain the information requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be
found.
The table enclosed as Appendix One at the end of this letter provides you with the annual breakdown
of costs per WC 122 and 222 from 2015 – 2020.

Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to
partial y refuse this request. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
