Thank you for your request of 22 October 2023, asking for the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
When reviewing claims for an adverse event from a medicine, would you kindly share details on this 
claim process:  
1. Does Fairway review the reports from the product' manufacturer on the product's adverse 
events/effects? 
2. In the case of a provisionally approved medicine (eg Fluvax, Comirnaty), does Fairway review the 
Periodic Safety Update reports from the manufacture?  For example, this is a periodic safety report 
from Pfizer on Comirnaty 
3. Does Fairway review the post marketing report published by Pfizer in the case of Comirnaty for 
claims of adverse events for this provisionally approved medicine? Ie this document 
 
If ACC is unable to resolve a review directly with the customer, an Independent Reviewer is engaged 
The Independent Reviewer may be associated with Fair Way or the Independent Review and Complaints 
Authority (ICRA). In accordance with sections 138 and 140 of the Accident Compensation Act 2001, 
Independent Reviewers must act independently, comply with the principles of natural justice, exercise due 
diligence in decision-making, and adopt an investigative approach.  
 
Like judges or other adjudication roles, reviewers do not tend to do their own research. Instead, they 
consider the evidence and relevant file information put forward by ACC and the client. This information 
may include the resources you have noted, if they are appropriate and relevant to the issue at review. 
 
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public
