Dear Mr MOORE

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FYI-REQUEST 1875-DB78FC9C

I refer to your e-mail dated 27 October 2016 in which you requested the following
information over the past two years:
1. The total number of alcohol checkpoints deployed;
2. The total number of alcohol checkpoints deployed where the primary rationale for
deployment was other than enforcing traffic alcohol laws;
3. For those identified where the primary rationale for deployment was other than enforcing
traffic alcohol laws, I request details on what the alternative rationale was.

I have considered your request in accordance with the Official Information Act 1982 and my
response is set out below.

Your Question 1

Police do not hold an accurate record of the total number of police checkpoints in the
Wellington District.  Accordingly, this request is refused on the basis that the information is
not held by Police and there are no grounds for believing it is held by another agency (s18(g),
Official Information Act 1982).

However, the Traffic Alcohol group between 01/07/2014 to 30/06/2015 completed 285 check
points, between 01/07/2015 to 30/06/2016 completed 304 check points and 01/07/2016 to
31/12/2016 completed 156 check points.

Your Question 2 and your Question 3

Other than specifically traffic related checkpoints Police do not hold a record of the rationale
of those check-points so that part of your request is refused on the basis that the information
is not held by Police and there are no grounds for believing it is held by another agency
(s18(g), Official Information Act 1982).
