Change of autism spectrum disorder support

Jill Adams made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry of Health should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Jill Adams

Dear Ministry of Health,

You have recently made a decision to change the amount of support that people with autism spectrum disorder (without an intellectual disability) can access from Need's Assessment Service Coordination agencies.

Could you please send me all the information e.g reports, cabinet minutes, general information and anything else that specifically relates to this change in support for this particular group?

I would like to receive information about the background to this recent decision, who was involved in this decision making and why a decision was made to change the amount of support that this group are now eligible for.

Yours faithfully,

Jill Adams

From: Jill Adams

Dear Ministry of Health,
I have had a conversation with Toni Atkinson, who has advised that there is not any information available to answer my question at present.

To summarize my question, in Canterbury in recent times families / individuals with Autism Spectrum disorder ( without an Intellectual Disability) have been advised that if their needs change or increase, they are no longer able to have an increase in support or a change of supports.

Previously they were able to request more or different supports as needed.

As people are now not able to have any increase in support, and the supports that they have currently are frozen regardless of need, that this is effectively a change and a decrease in supports.

This is the change I have asked about in my original question. I still do not have an answer about why it has been necessary to freeze and decrease supports.

Yours faithfully,

Jill Adams
