Meetings with gang leaders

David Farrar made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: David Farrar

Dear New Zealand Police,

I am requesting information under the Official Information Act. I am a citizen and resident of New Zealand.

An article at https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/... quotes the Waikato Mongrel Mob Leader media liaison as saying:

"Leader Sonny Fatupaito was having weekly calls with police deputy commissioner Wally Haumaha and other gangs around the country to work together, she said.

"It's about us looking after our own people and building relationships.

"Wally Haumaha put together a group of key leaders and we have been having telephone calls through the lockdown to make sure our people can access services."

My OIA request relates to those meetings and/or calls. Specifically I seek:

1) The dates on which any meetings (in person, or via telephone) occurred between staff at Police National HQ and gang leaders for the period 1 February 2020 to 05 May 2020.

2) Which gangs, organisations and government agencies took part in each call or meeting.

3) The roles held (but not the names) of the individuals representing each gang, organisation or agency that took part in each call or meeting.

4) The agenda for each call or meeting

5) Any minutes or notes of the discussion for each call or meeting

Many thanks

Yours faithfully,

David Farrar

as soon as we can.

Thank you for your understanding.
