Thank you for your Official Information Act (Act) request received by the Department of Internal 
Affairs (Department) on 1 August 2023.      
You requested –  
•  Please supply me with copies of all correspondence and other docs relating to New 
Zealand Kennel Club inc trading as Dogs New Zealand with regard to a contract enabling 
DogsNZ to operate a registry for all dogs that the Govt requires to be registered presently 
through the Local Councils. 
In response to your request, I can provide you with the following information. 
On 15 August 2023, you were advised via email that the National dog registry administered by 
Local Councils, has not been contracted out to Dogs New Zealand (Dogs NZ), formerly the New 
Zealand Kennel Club, to operate. The opportunity to reclarify your request was extended, 
however, no response has been received.  
Therefore, I must refuse your request under section 18(e) of the Act: that the document alleged 
to contain the information requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, 
cannot be found. 
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public, the Department has 
decided to proactively release a copy of this response on its website. All requestor data, 
including your name and contact details, will be removed prior to release. The released
