CRPS statistics

Shane Le Brun made this Official Information request to Accident Compensation Corporation

The request was partially successful.

From: Shane Le Brun

Dear Accident Compensation Corporation,

I would like statistics about a rare and often permanent condition CRPS, (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) and the long term support provided by ACC.
This information will be used for research to compare return to work rates, including part time employment, against international averages.

Since 2004 how many ACC claims have been accepted for the cover and treatment of CRPS following an injury?

Since 2004 how many ACC claims have been declined for the cover and treatment of CRPS following an injury?

Since 2004, how many of the accepted claims for CRPS have no longer receive weekly loss of earnings payments.

Of those who have had claims accepted for CRPS, how many are receiving partial earnings related compensation payments, because they are working part time.

Of those who have had a stop to their weekly loss of earnings entitlements, how many had their payments stopped because they could successfully work for the ACC threshold of vocational rehabilitation at the time of the decision, which under current legislation is 30 hours, but was 35 historically?

Of those whose CRPS claim has been accepted, but are no longer receiving weekly compensation, what was the average length of time the claimants were receiving weekly compensation?

If possible could these statistics be broken down to an annual basis and placed in a chart.

Yours faithfully,

Shane Le Brun

I have emailed a response back, I find it incredulous that they can calculate the cost of animal related accidents per year, but not the cost of 1 Medicine. If I don't get more information I will consider the Ombudsman as an option to try and extract more information. It sounds like ACCs Database is quite poor for big data statistics, my questions were the opposite of vague....
