New Zealand Police

Dear Hugh

I have been asked to let youknow that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request for "whether any dashcams or similar
systems are installed in police cars. If so, I would like to know how long
any data stored on them is retained for." this extension is pursuant to
section 15A(1) of the Official Information Act 1982, because the request
necessitates consultations such that a proper response to the request
cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

Police require until 28/02/2019to provide a substantive response to your
request.

You have the right to ask the Office of the Ombudsman to review this
extension.

Dear New Zealand Police,

Actually wait, I got a response on Jan 28th from MCMAHON, Teresa, with a letter dated Jan 25th from Rob Morgan attached. The letter said that no police cars have dashcams installed.

Can I enquire what this extension is required for? Was the response already received not correct?

Yours faithfully,

Hugh Davenport

Dear New Zealand Police,

I'm just asking for clarification on this one. I've been given a response that there are no dashcam's installed on Police vehicles (from MCMAHON, Teresa on Jan 28), but then was told that Police needed an extension til Feb 28 (on 12 Feb).

Which is it? Are there no dashcams? Or are there dashcams and you require an extension. I will note that this is not the first time that Police have been unsure about their responses to OIA requests. I would hope that there are more checks and balances before responses go out, especially if there are two conflicting responses as in this case.

Please do not treat this as a new request. This is just pointing out that there are two conflicting responses for this request (made on Dec 20), and I am seeking clarification on which is the correct response.

Yours faithfully,

Hugh Davenport

Just following up on this. I've been given a response that there are no dashcam's installed on Police vehicles (from MCMAHON, Teresa on Jan 28), but then was told that Police needed an extension til Feb 28 (on 12 Feb). I note that this tomorrow.

I note that your request for extension is due tomorrow. If I do not get a response clarifying this by tomorrow, I will be informing the Ombudsman, as it is very confusing whether your original response is valid given that you requested an extension afterwards.

Yours faithfully,

Dear New Zealand Police,

As no response given the conflicting responses has been made, I've reported to the Ombudsman. Hopefully NZ Police improve their processes for handling OIA requests in the future.

Yours faithfully,

Hugh Davenport
