Policy and procedures for responding to OIA requests from FYI.org.nz

J Devere made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: J Devere

Dear New Zealand Police,

Please provide current policy and or procedures followed by NZ Police in relation specifically to OIA requests received via the FYI.org.nz website.

I am interested particularly in why there is such inconsistency in the way requests through this medium are handled. For example my two recent requests have had automated responses, and indicating that OIA requests need to be made through your website (which incidentally is not in compliance with the OIA law).

Thankyou.

Yours faithfully,

J Devere

Dear New Zealand Police,

I noted that I haven't had a response to acknowledge this request, which you normally give. So I'm just wanting to check that this request and my other two recent requests through FYI have been received and are under action please? I don't want to get to the end of the 20 days, only to hear that you had overlooked them all! :)

The other two outstanding are:

https://fyi.org.nz/request/9909-senior-o...
https://fyi.org.nz/request/9940-oia-resp...

Thankyou.

Yours faithfully,

J Devere

New Zealand Police

Good morning

I can confirm that we have the requests below and they are underway. We
did have a slight issue with receiving the FYI requests after 15 March as
they were being directed to the Crime Reporting Line, which is a valid way
to reach us and has worked well up until now, but with the increased
volume and the need to assess that against the higher security alert some
of our OIAs were not getting through - the team at FYI were able to change
that and requests submitted by FYI are now coming directly to the OIA team
and things are moving quicker.

Warm regards

Renee

Dear New Zealand Police,

Further to Renee's response above, my last three OIA requests made via FYI.org.nz are all now overdue.

No advice that an extension was required has been received for any of them.

Noting your comments elsewhere that you have had difficulty receiving some requests, you might wish to browse the FYI website to see what other requests may have slipped through your cracks. I suspect that mine were originally amongst those although they were clearly picked up given Renee's response.

When might I expect a response to each of them please?

Yours faithfully,

J Devere

Good morning

That is something we are looking at. Our assumption is that anything
lodged through FYI arrived on the day it appeared on that site and that
the issue was at our end. This means that anything we have missed is
overdue and we are prioritising these when we find them.

I anticipate that you will receive responses to all your questions within
twenty working days.
