HSFY 2023 Semester 1 Grade distribution

A.A made this Official Information request to University of Otago

The request was successful.

From: A.A

Dear University of Otago,
I am making an OIA request for a spreadsheet or document containing confirmed grades for the HSFY semester 1 papers for 2023. This includes the papers HUBS191, CELS191, PHSI191, and CHEM191. This need not contain further data other than their overall grades. I am asking for the specific grade percentage, not merely the grade letter. I can confirm I am currently in New Zealand as per section 12(1)(c) of the Act.

Please do it in the exact same way as last year as you did with 'Rayner' in this request:https://fyi.org.nz/request/20145-hsfy-se...

Yours faithfully,
AA

Dear UoO - Official Information Act,
Please note that I do not need the results from the special exams (ie the exams that are done for people who missed the actual set of exams and therefore have to do these catchup exams)

Yours sincerely,

A.A

Dear UoO - Official Information Act,

Today marks the 20th of July 2023. While I understand that you might not have access to grade data from all four papers: CELS191, HUBS191, CHEM191, and PHSI191, I kindly request that you share the grade distributions from the individual papers for which you do have data available. As for the remaining papers that are still undergoing processing, it would be great if you could provide their grade distributions at a later date when that data is finalised. Thank you for your assistance

Yours sincerely,

A.A

Dear UoO - Official Information Act,

It was stated that
"Once special examinations have taken place for these papers and all
student results have been finalised, we will be happy to release the mark and grade
distributions for these papers. These are scheduled to be finalised by the beginning of August"
Seeing as though it is August, could you give an indication/update of how this is going. Furthermore, could you please give a data for which all the grade distributions could be release

Yours sincerely,

A.A

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, all of the Semester 1 2023 HSFY papers still have student results outstanding, therefore we are unable to provide the grade and mark distributions for these papers yet.

I will continue to follow this up with our departments and data analysts, and will endeavour to provide the distributions to you as soon as possible. I will provide the data per paper as soon as it is available, i.e., if one paper is fully confirmed before the others, I will send this to you separately, and follow up with the other papers as and when they are confirmed.

Ngā mihi

Subject to the following comments, please see attached the mark and grade distributions for the Semester 1 2023 CELS191 and PHSI191 papers:

1. please note that there are two pages in the attached spreadsheet: the first page contains the mark and grade distributions for all students who were enrolled in the papers (regardless of programme), and the second page contains the mark and grade distributions for students specifically enrolled in Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) only.

2. we note that students who withdrew from the papers, or received an Aegrotat Pass (not a grade or mark) are excluded from the data.

I will be back in touch once the mark and grade distributions for the Semester 1 2023 CHEM191 and HUBS191 have been finalised, as there are still special exam results outstanding for these papers.

Dear UoO - Official Information Act,
Could you check if the results of HUBS191 and CHEM191 have come through?
Furthermore, could you breakdown the data for CELS191 and PHSI191 for domestic students only?

Yours sincerely,

Dear UoO - Official Information Act,

Thank you for the response.

Could you also breakdown the grades and create a third sheet exclusively for domestic students for all 4 of the HSFY Sem 1 Papers (CELS191,PHSI191 as well as HUBS191 and CHEM191)

The work done to get this hugely valuable information from your team is hugely appreciated
